It's my lecture and I'll have fun if I want to

A couple of slides from my intellectual property lecture to Exeter law undergrads tomorrow...

Yes, I'm teaching Lucasfilm v Ainsworth, which is actually a really good case for explaining the rather peculiar bits of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 that govern the awkward boundary between what is protected by copyright and what is covered by design right.

(Posts on attending this case here, here and here; comment on the judgment and appeal).

I hope you're using the 20th Century Fox intro (regardless of copyright) because the effect just won't be the same without it.

Or you could get the students to hum it.

The Imperial March...

...would seem appropriate.

It's interesting that Lukas chronicled rebels in the late 1970s/early 19080s, but now produces a cartoon series where the stormtroopers are the good guys, and the Jedi knights have to operate as part of a team...

That's interesting.

People start off left-wing in their youth and tend to become more right-wing as their property and age rises.

I played the opening Star Wars main theme.

They all laughed.

Nice.

If I wished to pick your brains on a legal matter in relation to a book I'm writing on the history of Marvelman, would it be possible for me to do so?

OK - do you have my email? If not, send me a mail via LJ.

Thanks very much. I'm looking at an address on this page, which I'm going to use.
