Nature imitating Art (or rather, Michael Bay film SFX)

Saychev Peak on Matua Island in the Kuril Islands, Russia, blowing its top a couple of weeks ago. That nice circular hole in the clouds is where the shockwave from the eruption has cleared them away, and the milky layer above the eruption cloud is water vapour condensing as it is punched into the stratosphere.

I wonder how much dust that's put into the stratosphere and how much cooling it might produce (as well as annoyance for astronomers - Pinatubo was a real pain!).
