Another Desultory Post

I had been going to ask:

Dee-salt-ore-ee (how I've always pronounced it)

or

Dessul-tory (how I heard it on the radio yesterday)

But a quick google reveals - via the embedded sound file - that I Am Wrong.

[livejournal.com profile] bugshaw long since set me straight on how to say 'scenic' and 'topiary'. I wonder what other words I think I know the pronunciation of, but don't?

Hmm - there are very idiosyncratic ways of pronouncing certain difficult words ... like oh-ee-sar-fay-gus ... and then there are reasonably common variations, like dee-salt-ore-ee :-)

How do you pronounce, meringue? :-)

To rhyme with boomerang!

"petard"--I put the wrong emphasis on that one for three decades.
