The trailer for next week's Doctor Who

If you were at the Mitch Benn session at Eastercon last week, he was good-naturedly taking the mickey out of people who build their own Daleks, and right up until now I'd have been with him. Who needs their own Movie, or Imperial, or RTD Dalek, after all?

But a olive green drab Dalek with Union Flag insignia and webbing? WANT!!

(EDIT- see below for grabs from the trailer)

Oh yes. I wonder what Regiment they'd belong to? Hmmmm, I'll have to think about this...

Yeah, I sort of shouted "Yes! Daleks and WWII" and then listened for the echo, as surely half of Britain was shouting the same thing...

Of course, this explains why early Daleks have ears that bear a startling resemblance to the indicator lamps on Land Rovers and (old-style) Minis; Maurice Wilkes probably saw the Daleks and adopted aspects of the design.

Are the Daleks flying the space-Spitfires? I've been trying to pause it to see, without success.

If I had time to do artwork, I'd already have a "Keep Calm and Exterminate" T-shirt, with dalek head crown.

Hah! German science sneers at your pathetic British Daleks!

If you manage to get a radio controlled one, you can always bring it round and race it against my Xmas one.

Is it cheating to ask how a Dalek gets stuff out of its webbing pockets?

[identity profile] major-clanger.livejournal.com 2010-04-12 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Actually if they do release a model one, I'll be after one like a shot.

God knows what your little furry ladies will think of this.

I was actually wondering that but the whole WW2 Dalek idea is wonderful enough that I'm suspending my disbelief.

[identity profile] ms-cataclysm.livejournal.com 2010-04-12 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps the daleks can form into pairs for extracting objects from each other's webbing pockets ? It sounds a bit like one of those party games with balloons though.

Panda will glare and the other two will hide Behind the Sofa.

I like the fact that they come with their own tin hat.

There's precedent for armed forces needing to be paired up. Pup tents are issued as half kits and are no fun at all to sleep in without a partner:
