I'm surprised to hear that you think that "you understand our code of conduct and agree to be bound by it" is a disclaimer of responsibility.

What this would have done for Wiscon is allowed the concom to bypass the quasi-legal tribunal they set up and simply say "you signed up to the Code of Conduct, you breached it, you are out."
